A criticism made of mount attack demos being made on guys with no mount defence had led to the question: what should the demo partner be doing on the bottom of mount?
Having attended a seminar with Rickson Gracie, I can categorically tell you what being mounted on top of Rickson is like. He suspends you so high in the air, with his elbows stopping you climb, that you feel like you are about to fall off. With your hands being the only thing stopping you from shoulder rolling, he then proceeded to slap me from mount bottom whilst inviting me to return the slaps. I simply could not. It was like being a mouse whilst a cat toys with you.
Having spent several years since trying to recreate his mount defence, from his famous power shrimp where he propels blackbelts who sit back with such ease, to the defence against being struck, I feel I have some knowledge of his methods. These are better than anything I’ve seen outside of his lineage or those who directly study him.
